Info Ibiza: Ibiza Town

Ibiza Town

Holidays in Ibiza Town can be both eventful and relaxing. Situated to the south of the island, this is the capital city and the historic centre. Attracting tourists from all around the globe, the city is colourful and vibrant and has much to offer you on your holiday.

Ibiza Town or Eivissa is one of the most picturesque cities on the Mediterranean, the Carthaginians originally started building here in the 7th century and this was continued as the Romans took over the city, by which time city walls and some buildings were already constructed.

In the 16th century the North African piracy caused a need to build thicker and more substantial walls – which are the ones you see today. This "high city" or "Dalt Vila" towers high above sea level and plays host to the cathedral, which is particularly stunning when lit up in the night. Built when there was no need for car accessibility, the only way around is by foot; spend your holiday walking around the characteristic cobbled streets, looking out onto the sea from the top of the cathedral, or browsing around the museum.

For the shopaholics, the widest variety of shops from designer boutiques to handmade cakes are located here, the centre has managed to not become commercial, with only a handful of high street names, it's the perfect place to find original items.

The town centre is around the "Vara de Rey", where you will often see marquee's assembled on the many "fiesta" days full of typical Ibizan food and wine to sample, or hand made original crafts and art.

By night Ibiza is packed with people enjoying the evening browsing the market stalls on the port, drinking in the bars, and eating in the many inexpensive or upmarket restaurants. Other activities include boat or yacht hire, diving, day trips by boat to Formentera and Ibiza's other beaches, Bingo, Casino, Cinemas and much more. Ibiza villas and apartments can be the best option for those who always want to be close to nightlife, you may find that holiday apartments located in the city centre or in the Old Town are slightly more expensive - this is because of the fantastic location.

The Harbour or Port is situated at the bottom of the Old Town; you will find many top restaurants and stylish hangouts here. The Bars along the port in Ibiza town are where you're likely to see a famous face or two before everyone heads to the clubs.

The harbour is also the departure point of boat services to Formentera, Palma, Denia and Barcelona.

Holiday accommodation in and around the main town tends to be the most popular on the island. Ibiza-summer currently has a number of cheap holiday villas available in Ibiza Town.

The beaches of Ibiza Town are Talamanca and Figueretas.

Marina Botafoch and Talamanca

Situated on the adjacent side to the port of Ibiza, Ibiza’s Marina Botafoch is an exclusive, up-market area. You will find luxurious yachts moored here and some of Ibiza’s finest restaurants, as well as some of the best views of Dalt Villa. The Ibiza casino is located here, as well as famous Pacha nightclub and the exclusive Lio cabaret restaurant.
The beach of Talamanca, at the end of the Marina, is a long sandy bay and a favourite for holiday-makers.
Holiday accommodation in this area, particularly Ibiza villa rentals, tends to be very luxurious and at the higher end of the budget.

Jesus

Located just next to Talamaca, Jesus is a busy village with a relaxed atmosphere. It boasts a handful of restaurants serving multi-ethnic cuisine and one of the most important churches on the island, as well as hosting Ibiza's greatest art treasure - An altar screen completed in the 16th Century entitled "The Virgin and Child" which is mainly remarkable for having survived the invasions of the ensuing 500+ years intact.

Because of its close proximity to the centre, Jesus is an ideal location for your Ibiza villa or apartment.

Figueretas

This beach is located on the other side of the Ibiza Town to Talamanca. It is a sandy bay with a promenade complete with bars and restaurants. Figueretas tends to offer cheaper holiday accommodation than the other locations in Ibiza Town. Only holiday apartments or hotels are available in this area.

San Jordi

Located between Ibiza Town and the airport San Jordi consists of lots of countryside villas dotted around the Beautiful church and shopping centre.

Playa den Bossa

Leading on to Figueretas beach and close to the airport, Playa den Bossa offers the longest sandy beach on the island. This popular holiday resort has something for everyone. Aside from the beach, there is various Water sports and Diving, Water Park, Amusements, Crazy Golf, Bowling, Entertainment bars and plenty of restaurants and beachside cafes and bars for varying budgets.
For the party people, there is plenty on offer. The outdoor, daytime club Ushuaia is a relatively new addition to the Playa den Bossa scene and has quickly become one of the favourite clubs on the island. The world-famous Space nightclub is also nearby, as are plenty of pre-club bars, including Bora Bora, Sands and Coco Beach.
As with Figueretas, the accommodation in this area is mostly holiday apartments or hotels.

salinas beach

Salinas

Situated in the south of the island, this large white sandy beach is one of the most popular beaches in Ibiza, and generally considered to be the “trendiest”. With a fine selection of bar/restaurants, serving tasty food and playing chilled music.

Several of the most luxury Villas in Ibiza are located in Salinas, often complete with an enviable view of Formentera.

Ibiza-summer offers a wide choice of Ibiza villas, apartments and holiday cottages located in the Ibiza Town region.
