The rate of tax for private villa rentals will cost 2.20€ per night, inclusive of 10% VAT. For visitors staying in a hotel, the rate will depend on the hotel’s star rating. Four and five star hotels will cost 2€ plus VAT per night while one to three star hotels will cost 1€ plus VAT per night.
After 10 days of any stay, this rate is reduced by 50 percent. Tourists visiting off-season, between November and April will also have the tax rate halved. Children under 16 are exempt from the tax.
The new tax will be collected on arrival by the visitors travel company or hotel. At Ibiza Summer Villas, this will be collected upon arrival at the villa in Cash Euros and all guests will be informed in their final arrangements.
Every year, Ibiza welcomes over two million tourists, with the vast majority visiting between May and October. This massive influx of people in a short amount of time inevitably puts a strain on Ibiza’s natural resources and environment. The Balearic island authorities have stated the money raised from the ‘bill of sustainable EcoTax’ will go towards natural heritage, tourism innovation, reinvestment in tourist areas and landscape care.
Whilst the Ibiza Summer Villas team encourages and supports investment into Ibiza’s environment, we also appreciate that additional costs like this can put a strain on the holidaymaker’s budget. Therefore, we hope to update this blog post in the future with good news of where the tax has been used, so our clients can at least be kept updated on how they are contributing to Ibiza’s sustainability and ensuring Ibiza remains the beautiful holiday destination it is now.
